GRANWOOD CONSTRUCTION

The traditional GRANWOOD system consist of:

·          A 13mm cement/sand fixing bed or a 4mm colour matched cementitious tile adhesive bed

·          10mm thick GRANWOOD flooring blocks

The blocks are bonded to the concrete/screed base and become an integral part of the floor.  Many of the problems associated with subfloors and P.V.A. adhesives are eliminated.  Great structural capacity and dimensional stability is achieved.

GRANWOOD INSTALLATION

Concrete subfloors are consolidated and left with a yard broom finish (screeds with a wood float finish) 20mm below finished floor level.  GRANWOOD operatives mix and lay the 13mm fixing bed with dry materials provided by the General Contractor at each floor level.  The flooring blocks (174mm x 57mm x 10mm nominal – dove-tailed keys) are beaten into the fixing bed and all joints are grouted with mid-grey GRANWOOD grout.

Blocks may be laid basket or straight lay pattern.  Sawn contraction joints are cut into the floor to coincide with similar joints in the base and at other appropriate locations.  These joints approximately 3mm wide are filled with GRANWOOD filler in a colour to match the floor.  Movement joints are formed in the GRANWOOD floor above those designed into the subfloor construction and filled with an appropriate flexible compound (by specialist).

The floor is then machine sanded and sealed with GRANWOOD polyurethane seal to achieve the desired surface finish.

CROSS SECTION DETAILS

CEMENT/SAND INSTALLATION:

Supply and fix 174mm x 57mm x 10mm nominal thickness GRANWOOD FLOORING on a consolidated yard broom finished concrete subfloor which should be left 20mm below finished floor level and grout all joints with mid-grey GRANWOOD grout.  Machine sand the whole floor surface and apply GRANDOOD polyurethane seal.

THINSET INSTALLATION:

Supply and fix 174mm x 57mm x 10mm nominal thickness GRANWOOD FLOORING to a level and wood-floated concrete subfloor or screed which should be left 12mm below finished floor level and grout all joints with GRANWOOD grout of matching colour.  Machine sand the whole floor surface and apply GRANWOOD polyurethane seal.

Please refer to the current GRANWOOD technical information sheet.  NOTE:  Choice of floor colour & pattern to be stated.

NOTE:  No separate floated screed is required.  Thinset methods of installation may be used on level concrete or screed subfloor.

GRANWOOD FLOORING BLOCKS – TECHNICAL DETAILS

GRANWOOD FLOORING is a wood-composition flooring block composed of wood granules, fillers, pigments and linseed oil.  It is hydraulically press formed and unique curing processes polymerise and oxidise the linseed oil to impart the properties of stability and water, fire, abrasion and chemical resistance.

Dimensions

174mm x 57mm x 10mm (nominal)

Pattern

Choice of basket and variations of straight lay patterns.

Colours

10 rich colours offer variety of colour and good contrast between field colour and game line colour.  See colour chart above.

Accessories

Duct covers – available on request.

Thermal resistance

0.028m  k/w.

Fire resistance

GRANWOOD has a ZERO ‘Fuel Contribution Factor.’  See various international test results, including A.S.T.M. E.84-70.

Water resistance

The GRANWOOD block is unaffected by extremes of humidity and survives flood conditions.  This remarkable stability has been proven in many situations where other floors would require repair or replacement.

ENVIRONMENT

GRANWOOD blocks do not contain hardwoods and are manufactured using what might otherwise be waste softwood.

GAME LINES

GRANPAINT painted lines are applied during the sealing process.

The following colours are those most commonly used:

Badminton – White:  Tennis – Yellow:  Basketball – Black:  Netball – Red:  Volleyball – Green:  Hockey – Blue/Orange.

APPROVALS

Traditional GRANWOOD flooring is classified as an A1 (Heavy Duty Indoor Use) surface by the Sports Council.  Source:  RAPRA Technical Report No. 7647/7816 dated 22.10.82.

TRACTIONAL QUALITY

Much thought is given to the question of elasticity and resilience but also of importance is the tractional quality of the floor.  The GRANWOOD surfaces allow games players to undertake running and turning with confidence.  The surface is neither slippery nor tight thus meeting the physiological requirements of the majority of activities.

MAINTENANCE

The ease of maintenance of a GRANDWOOD flooring surface is renowned.  Dusty floors should be swept or dry mopped.  Dirty floors should be washed or scrubbed using recommended detergents.

REPLACEMENT FLOORS

The installation procedures of traditional GRANWOOD flooring make it part of the structural floor and proven resistance to water and flooding eliminates problems where such conditions occur.
